Photo book by Bo Mathisen – A raw depiction of reality

For several years, photographer Bo Mathisen has documented major political events and everyday dramas from different parts of the world. In this book, he has collected photographs from around 20 countries, which provide an unvarnished and honest insight into people's lives under different social conditions.

The images take us to the former Yugoslavia, Albania, North Korea, Egypt and the Dominican Republic, among other places, and convey stories that often remain invisible in the news. With a strong visual narrative voice, Mathisen shows the reality behind the cries for help – something Thorvald Stoltenberg emphasizes in the foreword: “His work shows a clear commitment to conveying the reality behind the cries for help, and to making us hear them.”

The book contains photographs in both color and black and white, and the texts are available in both Norwegian and English. Mathisen, who was previously a reportage photographer for VG, currently works as a freelance photographer and continues to use the camera as a tool to create insight and understanding.
