Wilfred W. Berthelsen
Wilfred W. Berthelsen is a photographer who focuses on the artistic part of photography, and he uses his photographs to convey conditions, light, minimalism and mystery. Berthelsen is keen to have a responsible approach to the process, and he tries to express his passion for photography through his work.
EXODUS
Berthelsen started the EXODUS project in 2009 after his first photo expedition to Antarctica. He wanted to focus on the artistic part of the photographs and convey the loneliness, calmness, fragility and mystery of this world of ice and snow. He wanted to see the landscape and the animals in a slightly different way than is usually portrayed and direct attention to the unique areas that climate change has made especially important to focus on.
Berthelsen's sources of inspiration are photographers such as Salgado, Kenna and Adams. He expresses an urge to create something and use his creativity to convey something to other people. Ralph Gibson described the images in Berthelsen's portfolio as expressions of "Avayfullness" (a state of being gone, yet present).
