Nils Alstrup Dahl
Nils Alstrup Dahl was a Norwegian visual artist and painter born on 19 November 1876 and died on 3 January 1940. He made his debut at the Autumn Exhibition in 1897 with the painting "Evening". D's paintings mainly included landscapes and city scenes, and occasionally portraits and still lifes.
He painted in various areas in Norway, such as Telemark, around the Oslofjord, the Old Town in Fredrikstad, in the area around his childhood home in Professor Dahls gate in Oslo and in recent years on Skåtøy. One of D's most famous paintings is "Sunset", which can be found in the National Gallery. This evocative painting shows a blushing sun reflected in a quiet river. D's paintings can have a certain decorative feel, where the images often consist of larger surfaces with clear contours. The atmosphere in the landscapes is often blurred and blurs the details, and the paintings are characterized by a gentle and diffused light without either sun or rain.
