Wilfred Wessel

Wilfred Wessel Berthelsen is a former student of Morten Krogvold, and his work bears traces of inspiration from masters such as Sebastião Salgado, Michael Kenna and Ansel Adams. He works mainly in black and white, but allows color to find a place where it adds depth and nuance to the visual language.

His photographs are characterized by an inner silence and a poetic approach to the landscape – a visual thoughtfulness that both Morten Krogvold and Ralph Gibson have highlighted in their descriptions of his work.

In 2014, Berthelsen received silver in the world's largest photography competition, the Sony World Photography Awards. He has had a number of solo exhibitions, including in London, Oslo and Bergen – where he sold all of his works during the show in Grieghallen. The photo book and exhibition Exodus were met with great interest and are currently sold out.

In the fall of 2025 he will exhibit the series EUMBRA at Galleri Daidda in Oslo. In 2026 he has been invited to exhibit at the Nordic Light photo festival in Kristiansund, Norway's largest photo festival. In Dubai, there will be an exhibition in April 2026. Later in September in China at the Hong Art Museum in Chongqing.

Wilfred's photographs have been published in a number of photography and art magazines, both nationally and internationally.

Wilfred Wessel has an unusual lifelong art project.

– People say that everything has already been done before. I refuse to believe that.
