Per Heimly is a Norwegian Sami art, fashion and advertising photographer living in Oslo. He grew up as the youngest in a group of seven siblings - he has six sisters, in the Marksame village of Snubba in Evenes in Nordland. At the age of 16, he picked up his camera, went to Oslo and declared war on the prevailing image vision. In 1999, Heimly was one of the founders of the fashion and art magazine Fjords. The renowned magazine helped make modern Nordic culture and design available to an international audience. Heimly has never hesitated to provoke in his images and has also not avoided controversy in the media, e.g. as a representative of the artist brothers who were named "The New Wine". Heimly's pictures provoke because they often show the beautiful in unattractive, degrading and taboo situations. Heimly does not shy away from the legacy of Edvard Munch, and it was this expressive expression that first made Heimly widely known in Norway. He has been one of our leading photographers for 25 years; his pictures are somewhere between the commercial and the artistic.
