Photographer Trym Ivar Bergsmo has worked as a photographer and artist for more than 30 years. Based in the Arctic, he is inspired by the lives of the people here, their landscape and culture. He made a number of books and has had exhibitions all over Europe. His work is represented in national as well as international collections. The works have also been purchased by national companies and he has delivered larger public commissions. His pictures have been published all over the world. Bergsmo currently takes on a few commercial assignments, while his main focus is on his own projects. He is currently working on new book projects, exhibitions and documentary projects.

"I was born here, in the North. Mountains, forests, shorelines, the different seasons, the wind, the light... Throughout my childhood and youth I was surrounded by these elements. I was shaped by the energy of this landscape. I have seen many landscapes since then. Glaciers, deserts, other mountains, warmer winds and softer light. They are all part of my inner landscape and I need them. But it is here, in the north, that I find myself, feel at home. Through different artistic approaches, I have shared glimpses of these quiet, intense, untouched, wild and tranquil landscapes."

Arist statement

Through various approaches and projects, I try to understand my own social, cultural and psychological connection to the world around and inside me. Like most Westerners, I too am restless and feel the need to belong to something. By knowing my own history, I can also understand and know others'. My works are direct, they reflect reality as I feel and experience it. I try to create order in life. I search for the essence of the moments, the point between total chaos and sublime harmony. My works search for elements and moments that reflect universal, inner psychological landscapes. In these landscapes I find my identity.
