Photographer Wilfred W. Berthelsen says that with this work he tries to convey the condition, calmness, loneliness and fragility of this world of ice and snow.
"Started with this project in 2009, when I was on my first photo expedition to Antarctica. What I mainly experienced photographically was that all the other photographers photographed in color and that it was either pure landscape or portrait of animals, without much thought of art.
I wanted my approach to focus on the artistic part of a photograph, and in that connection came the name of the project/work: E X O YOU S
The loneliness, the fragile environment, the light, the minimalism and the mystery of the landscape both north and south. Ralph Gibson thought the photos expressed "Avayfullness" when he saw my portfolio for the first time.
The urge to create something, use my creativity and convey something to other people. Photographers like Salgado, Kenna and Adams are my sources of inspiration.
I try to see the landscape and animals in these areas in a slightly different way than they are usually portrayed, and climate change in these areas makes it extra important to focus on this. These are unique areas to which we must direct our attention.
I have to express my passion for photography. I want to create something."
