Thomas Nesland Olsen (b. 1977) is a Norwegian-American visual artist who often combines classic and technically accurate motifs with a simpler and more naive approach. In addition to being inspired and interested in learning from older painters such as Vélasquez, he draws much of his inspiration from the contemporary approach to abstract painting. With this, he strives to make the works different and interesting. His combination of work in psychiatry and as a painter has made him particularly interested in the power of art to influence people, and to understand art and emotions as evolutionary adaptive programs.
